Civil
Esther’s civil work encompasses a wide range of personal injury cases including employers’ and occupiers’ liability together with road traffic and highways act claims. She has considerable experience of acting for trade unions particularly in cases involving accidents at work. She is prepared to work under conditional fee agreements where appropriate.
She has appeared before the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeal Panel and also undertakes work for the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis predominantly in Closure Order and Anti Social Behaviour Order applications. She is also instructed by other organisations on similar applications. Recent cases include a successful application on behalf of Thanet District Council for Anti Social Behaviour Orders against five members of a street gang.
Esther also regularly appears before the Coroner’s Court at Inquests particularly in cases involving asbestos related diseases, the deaths of those under the care of medical practitioners and deaths at work.
Esther has a special interest in clinical negligence work particularly Healthcare Associated Infections. She has advised on a number of such cases, particularly those involving MRSA, and has written and lectured on this topic.
Crime
Esther is regularly instructed by the Crown Prosecution Service in the Crown Court in cases involving matters such as the supply of drugs, sexual offences, violence, serious disorder, robbery and dishonesty offences. She also conducts defence work in the Crown Court. She has been instructed as junior on a number of cases including a large scale cannabis production and money laundering case involving six Defendants in 2007 with Martin Pinfold. She was also second junior to Tom Little and led by Simon Carr in the case of R v Khalisadar & Others during 2008.
R v Khalisadar & Others [2008] Led by Simon Carr as second junior to Tom Little. Prosecuted a nine Defendant case involving a knife-point stranger rape and a sophisticated conspiracy to pervert the course of justice linked to the East London Mosque. Much of the investigation was undertaken by the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command. The case involved a wealth of complex expert evidence as well as a number of novel Human Rights arguments.
Esther very much enjoys horse riding and is rarely happier than when combining that hobby with her twin passion for travel by riding on some far flung beach. Needless to say she rarely gets that opportunity and so when in London she relaxes by visiting the theatre and art galleries and seeing stand-up comedy. This year she finally obtained one of her lifelong goals and got an allotment and so now spends most of her free time either tending her crops or planning what to grow next.
